*The 549 Family Foundation was introduced to the public in June of 2002. Foundation brochures were mailed out to all District 549 residents explaining the new Foundation, and asking for Charter and Founder memberships. In early July of 2002, the brochures were sent out to out side the district alumni, those of who’s addresses could be obtained at the time. In all, around 10,000 brochures were sent. The 549 FF membership will be based on a yearly renewal, with the exception of the Founder members which is a life time membership. -Year one Advisory Committee and Delegates: President Dave Arvig, Vice President Tom Meinhover, Treasure Bill Pawlowski, Secretary Cathy Kratzke, Delegates Dennis Drummond, Nick Anderson, Fred Sailer, Committee advisors, Cyndy Huber, Tami Kalina, Steve Knuttila, and Coordinator Dan Schroeder.
-Web Site: Sue Eickschen and Joel Bergland of Digital Jam Web Development Services of ACS, Perham helped put together the 549 FF web site.
-1st Annual Golf Tourney: The first annual 549 FF golf tourney took place on Saturday August 31st, 2002 and was deemed a success. Alumni players from the Twin Cities, and as far as Texas came to have fun and support the 549 Family. Next years annual tourney is in the works and looking for bigger and better things. The date of the tourney is yet to be determined. We ask that you consider being a part of the tourney in 2003.
-PHS Athletic Hall of Fame: In conjunction with the Yellowjacket Coaches Association, the 549 FF will help sponsor the ‘Jacket Athletic Hall of Fame. On September 6th, 2002 at the half time of a ‘Jacket football game two new members where enshrined to the Hall. Mary (Moenkedick) Storrusten ’79, and Charlie Nelson ’90 where inducted. Past members of the Hall were also honored that night. Any info wanted on the Hall, contact Chairman Mike Peterson at Perham Schools.
-Communications Network: A communications network set up by class decades and graduation class dates is in the process of being set up. This should help all alumni keep in touch with the Foundation. A search for class representatives is in the works. Contact the 549 FF is you would like to be your class rep.
-First $’s Donated to District 549: The 549 FF Advisory Committee granted it’s first dollars to District 549 in November 2002. Three areas of education, the High School Science Project, the Middle School’s Laurentian Trip, the school Volunteer group received monetary donations to help enhance the students in these areas.
